Mr. Cottrell directs the Concert Choir, Varsity Singers, Select Choir, 6th Grade Choir, and 7th/8th Combined Choir. Lennie has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in conducting from Portland State University, where he studied with Ethan Sperry. Before moving to Portland in 2016, Lennie worked for the Chicago Children’s Choir, teaching choir to students in 3rd through 8th grades throughout the city of Chicago. He also founded a professional men’s chamber choir, Constellation Men’s Ensemble. In addition to teaching at Valley, Lennie is the Associate Conductor of the Oregon Repertory Singers and the Choir Director at Lake Oswego United Church of Christ. Lennie is also a professional singer—he works for Oregon Catholic Press as a recording session singer and will sing his first concert with Cappella Romana (a professional chamber choir in Portland) in December 2018.
